FreeWills End By Jamie Daws
The Freewill Principle has long been one of magicâs most beloved and commercial concepts. Yet, its ambiguous revelation has left many performers hesitant to explore its full potential⊠until now! Â
Introducing Freewillâs End, an incredible twist on this timeless effect! This isnât
just another routine; itâs a commercial masterpiece that has left some of the
biggest minds in magic utterly baffled. Say goodbye to ambiguous written
predictions and hello to a disarmingly clever method that guarantees
unforgettable reactions. Â
With Freewillâs End, you get not one but two powerful routines:
Â
- A darker, thought-provoking story for those who enjoy bizarre magic. Â
- A light-hearted, commercial version, perfect for gigs and family-friendly
performances. Â
Â
What Happens?
Â
Freewillâs End - The Dark Routine
Â
The magician introduces an envelope, placing it on the table, and then reveals
three photos: a woman, a man, and a young boy. The audience learn that the
woman has lived a fulfilling life, the man, a former soldier, is adjusting to civilian
life and the boy, full of potential, represents the promise of the future. Two of
them died suddenlyâŠ
Â
The photos are shuffled face down. One is slid toward the performer, another to
the spectator, and the last is left untouched. The spectator is then given a
choice: to either tear their photo or mark it with an X, and whatever they choose,
the magician will do the opposite to their own. Â
Â
The decisions are made⊠the spectator tears their photo, revealing the man,
the magician marks their photo with an X, revealing the woman and the boyâs
photo remains undamaged on the table. Â
Â
The story continues with a chilling revelationâŠÂ the torn photo is the boyâs father,
the marked photo is the fatherâs secret mistress and the boy grew up to take the
lives of both of them.
Â
As the impact of the story sinks in, the envelope is opened. Inside are duplicates
of the photos, perfectly matching the spectatorâs choices⊠the man torn, the
woman marked, and the boy undamaged.Â
Â
Freewillâs Friend - The Lighthearted Routine
Â
For a more playful tone, the magician shares a childhood story of how they
learned magic by mischievously stealing cards from family decks during trips.
Three cards are presented, the 2 of Spades, the King of Diamonds and the
7 of Diamonds.Â
Â
The spectator selects one card for themselves, one for the magician, and
leaves the third in the centre of the table. They decide whether to tear or mark
their card, with the magician doing the opposite.
The envelope is opened, revealing a Steamboat Willie-style souvenir card, a Rome
card, and a standard playing card. They match the condition of the cards the
spectator chose. The 2 of Spades is torn, the King of Diamonds is marked
and the 7 diamonds is unharmed with âMy Lucky Cardâ written on its back!
Â
Why Freewillâs End Stands OutÂ
Â
- No switching of the prediction, what the spectator sees is what they get. Â
- No special envelopes required, just pure psychological cheekiness.
- Can be easily adapted to other routine's / props.Â
- No ambigous revelation just a clear, visual and easy to understand revelation.
